The Board is very keen to encourage our Junior Members to play and improve their golf and to be active participants in the life of KGC.
Here are some of the activities that are scheduled for the Juniors during 2024 –
· Allocated Tee Times for Juniors on 2 Sundays each month. This provides an opportunity for our Juniors to meet each other.
· A Juniors Invitation Day on Sunday June 30th where the Juniors can invite friends and family. There will be several prizes for the Junior Members and their visitors.
· The Juniors “ProAm” where the Juniors form a team of 3 juniors and play with a KGC Men’s or Ladies Pennant or Interclub representative. This event has been a great success and enjoyed by the Juniors and our Senior Club representatives. The event is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of the year.
· A “Ryder Cup” competition which will be a match play format with the 2ball and individual matches played over 2 Sundays. This is planned for October/November.
· KGC will again field Junior teams in the Eric Apperly Shield, the Juniors Pennants and Encourage Shield competitions.
· A series of 6 clinics – 4 clinics during the School Term plus 2 clinics during school holidays. These clinics are separate to the clinics under the Cadet Program. The first clinics will start on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
· The existing Cadet Program is held on 2 Saturdays each month over school terms where our fine PGA professionals teach and develop the skills of younger golfers as well as instructing them on the rules of golf and the etiquette that is expected.
A good part of the costs for these activities will be funded through the generosity of KGC members who participated in a recent golf trip. I had the good fortune to play golf with John Small during the event who asked me what KGC was doing with the Junior program. John is a past Club Champion and member of several winning KGC Major Pennant Teams and was previously very active with Junior and Cadet programs. That night, John and the organisers of the golf trip mentioned that the Club is revitalising the Junior Activities and they initiated the donations in support of the juniors. The response was overwhelming both with donations and in supporting more Junior involvement at KGC. My thanks to the participants of the golf trip for their generosity and support.
I hope the update on the Juniors Activities has been helpful. I welcome the support of all KGC Members in making the Juniors feel comfortable at KGC and to encourage them to enjoy and improve their golf.
Many thanks to all for the ongoing support in revitalising the Juniors’ Activities at KGC.
Regards,
