It is with much regret that the Club has received the news of the passing of one of its favourite sons The Honourable Roger Gyles AO KC.
Roger was a member of KGC for close to 60 years, having been proposed for membership by his father Harry in 1971. Roger was a tough competitor on the course and the winner of several major events over the years, but the real joy for him from the Club was the people he played with, many of whom became close friends. In many ways Roger was the quintessential “club man” .
His son Lachlan, well known to many Club Members, writes on behalf of the family:
“Dad loved the Club and everything that it stood for and was so proud to become President in 2010. Like many things in his life, KGC was better for Dad’s wisdom and guidance whilst President and beyond, but he also benefited greatly in return from his many happy years as a Member. Such a pity that he won’t be able to ring the bell one more time after winning the Saturday comp, one of his great pleasures in life.”
The Club will advise Members of funeral arrangements when they are published.
Funeral arrangements:
Monday 17th March 2025, 11am, St Stephen’s Church, Macquarie Street, Sydney.
Followed by Royal Yacht Squadron, Kirribilli, 33 Peel Street, Kirribilli.
